Danica, Soichiro, and YOU…

While I was enjoying Chet’s last post about the “fits and starts” of Jackson’s Journey, and Johnny’s brilliant example of seeking the “uncomfort zone”, I was reminded of a cool clip from Honda.  In it, Indy race car driver Danica Patrick describes her intentional push into the “uncomfort zone.”

You’re driving your car, and you feel frightened a little bit.  We bump up against that feeling as much as we can to try and push that limit further and get comfortable there, and then push it again — so you’re constantly on the brink of crashing — because THAT’S the fastest.

Soichiro Honda, founder of Honda Motor Co., was always known for pushing the boundaries of conventional thinking, and was once dubbed “the Edison of Hamamatsu” (his home town).  Like Edison, Soichiro Honda saw failure as the inevitable path to to breakthrough and success.

As you watch the video below, think about this:

Where’s YOUR “uncomfort zone”?

How often do you intentionally go there?

What about your TEAM?

Do you punish failure or applaud the risk-taker?

Are you willing to race on the “brink of crashing?”  Because THAT’S the fastest.

Check it out…
