Leaders can easily get stuck in task orientation. This is especially true when they’ve recently been in a doer role and rewarded (promoted) for being a doer. There’s a switch that must be flipped, if they’re to be successful in a role that involves leading others.
The switch must flip from being a performer to being responsible for the performance of others. From focusing on my to-do list to setting a vision and connecting with my people. From getting it done, to inspiring others to get it done. From meeting or surpassing the standard, to setting the standard and holding others accountable to it. From being a doer to being a leader. Simple, not easy.
