Constraint breeds creativity

Early in a journey of mastery everything tends to be cookie cutter, plug and play. You’re learning a new system and skillset so that means a lot of learning by rote and copying.

Truth is, with any skill endeavor you must learn the basic plays before you can learn to riff and create. As you grow and master the basics, you find a lot more freedom. Constraint breeds creativity. Learn the constraints, learn the system, then play.

What are the plays you’re mastering? Which have you mastered? Where do you need to play more? Where do you need to learn the system more deeply?
