Excellence demands much of those who pursue it. It demands we dare greatly and face our hardest challenges (mostly those within). We live in an age where this is, by and large, not celebrated. We live in an age of conformity. Whether on the right or the left, it’s expected you’ll conform. To step out is to risk the wrath of the conformed crowd. Good.
Go your own way, blaze your own trail, risk the wrath. Outside criticism is a tax on success (thanks, McBee). Pay that tax all day long.
The pursuit of excellence is, from my perspective, one of the most beautiful things about this race we get to run. Keep doubling down on the path of mastery. Keep learning to dig in more, to give more, to be more present and loving. To create the adventures that build the memories, to be the rock that steadies my/your family. To master the art of living, one day, one chapter at a time. These are the things I remind myself of. Perhaps one or two will resonate for you. Chase your form of excellence, pay your tax, enjoy mastering the art of living.
