Rising to expectations, not occasions

People don’t rise to the occasion, they fall to their level of training. You hear this Navy Seal maxim frequently in BTL. It’s true. Here’s an and – people often DO rise to expectations over time.

I’ve got a client whose boss just recently walked into their office and declared that they they were now fully in charge of perhaps the #1 strategic objective for the company, has his full belief and support, and that he (the boss) had declared that to the board.

Damn. My client was inspired and fired up to keep chasing excellence. When others give us their belief, and are clear about their expectation that we will be great, humans love to meet and exceed those expectations. Put another way, belief transforms. Lend another your belief, expect them to meet your expectations. When they do, keep raising them.
