Competence vs confidence

Competence matters way more than confidence. Confidence comes and goes. Get a less than desirable result and your confidence may wane. Failure, however, does not negate the reps you’ve taken, aka your level of competence. Competence breeds confidence. When you’re in the proverbial arena, you can remind yourself that you’ve done the work to be there. You’ve earned the right and paid the sweat tax.

When you want something reliable to depend on, build competence. Confidence will follow. And even if it’s not present, you can still take bold action based on your foundation of competence. Want to build more competence? Get to work and get better.
