How do you prepare for a big moment? It starts with preparation. There’s at least two different kinds of preparation. Specific preparation – preparation for the task and topic at hand. This involves familiarizing yourself with the the relevant information, details, data, numbers, identifying the melody lines and gaining clarity on what you believe to be the path forward.
There’s also general preparation, which doesn’t need to have a specific event in time to prepare for. General prep is BTL 101. Core work. Getting clarity on what you believe about how to handle hard things, how to best communicate, when to collaborate, when to forge ahead with an idea and when to slow down, etc.
If you want to have more clarity in a Moment of Truth, practice more general prep. Write more. Beef up your core and engage with it. Read more and apply what you learn. Practice closing integrity gaps. The more general prep, the more prepared you are when the lights are brightest, even if they’re unexpected.
