Chosen and unchosen suffering. It hit me in a team practice the other day that they align quite well with the concepts of becoming and belonging. What is chosen suffering if not becoming? Learning to do hard shit in order to increase our capacity to do and handle hard shit. Becoming a stronger, better version of who we are.
Unchosen suffering is not belonging in and off itself – in fact it can feel like the exact opposite. It can feel isolating and lonely. The best way to get through it is to lean on and into belonging. To be with others who love you and can support you through the difficult season.
As a practice participant said when closing us out – it’s easier to go through hard things together. AND the more hard things you do, the easier it becomes to navigate hard things.
