Power

Leadership IS about power. But not the way many practice it. It’s not about hoarding power, grabbing it, retaining it or wielding it. It’s about EMpowering others. How much can you give away? How much can you disperse? How much power can you let go of and allow to reside with your people? Do they feel they have the power to build the product? Lead their team? Grow in their role? Power finds its best use when given away.

Aim to create opportunities for mini-CEOs to emerge. People who treat their domain as if they owned it. They don’t come running to you with every question about what they can or can’t do – they make decisions and are responsible for the outcomes. They are thinking like owners rather than employees. Job satisfaction AND performance will rise in concurrence with psychological ownership. Your job, leader, is to help create an environment of freedom AND accountability. Give power away.
