The best things in life must often be pursued indirectly. I read this in someone else’s opining recently, and I believe there’s a lot of truth in it. Said differently, if you want to be happy don’t focus on being happy. Get lost in pursuit of something, lose yourself fully in flow, focus on the joy of another. Happiness will often be the byproduct.
Indirectly does not mean by way of manipulation or being less than forthcoming. Clarity and truthfulness still matter greatly. It simply means the order and aim are paramount. Most of the best things – love, happiness, creation – come to fruition when we focus on the process and the journey rather than the outcome.
