Kids can’t raise themselves. True. And at a societal level we’ve somehow managed to over-raise and over-function for our kids. Also true. I saw the results of this first hand as a college coach – panic over failure, struggle to face hard things head on, lack of ability or desire to have difficult conversations. Not in every player I coached, but an increasing percentage of them over time. Not good, and not setting them up for success.
Building those abilities starts when they’re small. Step back. Let them struggle. Let them fall and fail. Let them learn to do hard things without your intervention. How do you want to equip them for adulthood? Figure out what you believe, get on the same page as your partner, start behaving in alignment with what you believe rather than your fears. Fear less, build more.

Spot on.
