Time

“We labour at our daily work more ardently and thoughtlessly than is neccessary to sustain our life, because to us it is even more necessary not to have leisure to stop and think. Haste is universal because everyone is in flight from himself.” – Nietzsche

You have enough time. I have enough time. It’s only a problem if we don’t use our time well. It’s a problem when you convince yourself that you really do have 20 equally important and pressing priorities (which really means you have none). When you don’t slow down and instead keep spinning and bullshitting yourself that you’re making real progress as you check things off the to do list.

To truly slow down can be daunting. To sit and stare at a blank piece of paper and begin to write about what actually matters most to me? Really frickin hard. What if I’m not actually spending my time and energy on the things that are my top priority? Or perhaps more daunting, what if I have to stop putting effort toward some things that are important to my boss/friend/partner? Yes, hard to confront that reality. And it’s there, whether you confront it or not. Stop running from yourself. Stop running from doing the hard work of slowing down and figuring out what matters most, how you want to spend your time, what actually is the top priority, who you want to become, what hard stuff actually needs your time and attention, etc.

Stop running, start writing, start living.
