Research shows that people are willing to work harder and for longer hours IF they are given opportunities to take initiative. In other words they don’t want to work harder for the boss’s aims, they want to work harder for THEIRS. We work hard on stuff that lights us up. If nothing lights us up then we save that energy for projects at home or in our community. Makes sense.
Share your vision, leader, and then get curious with them about what fires them up. Is there something that they’re eager to pursue that aligns with your vision? Good…that’s when the magic happens. If you want people to take initiative, challenge and support them in doing so. Help them grow rather than wondering or lamenting why they’re not.
