Is this the road to CLARITY?

Leaders are believers. We all desire to be lead by someone who believes. Great leaders believe in something bigger than themselves. Great leaders believe in their purpose, passion, process and their people. Great leaders believe in themselves and are on the hero’s journey discovering their OPUS. Great leaders clearly see their way forward. This clarity is HUGE. This clarity allows their teams to connect. As we connect we gain clarity for ourselves and begin to “catch it.” We build on their vision and make it even clearer. This is cool. This is a high performance team that is clearly on a mission. This is also very rare.

Here’s why. Leaders are believers. Got it. Leaders are CONNECTORS too. This is where it gets foggy. Every CEO I coach feels the vision, mission, and values (as most call ’em) are crystal clear. They cannot imagine this message being unclear! However, when I ask the team to repeat the vision, mission, and values they simply can’t. They don’t “get it.” The CEO has got it down. The rest of the team just keeps their head down and does their job. They do not connect. The team does whatever they HAVE to every day. They get by. They stay on task! They get tired. They lose track of where they’re going. This team underperforms. This team is normal.

The road to CLARITY begins with an acknowledgement that fog is present. CEO’s need to stop telling their team to “stop saying that” and begin asking questions that start with WHY.

Remember, you are the CEO of the corporation called YOU. Do you have clarity of purpose, passion, and process for your road to OPUS?

The road to CLARITY…are you on it?

A great tandem read to gain clarity that will have you and your team spreading like a virus is the combo of The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell and Made to Stick, by Dan and Chip Heath. I remember more about these two books than any I’ve read. As you gain clarity use these books to connect the rest of us. We could all use a little more CLARITY.
