Rochester Randy…

My son Taylor has been gifted with great hand/eye coordination. He loves to play games with balls. No big deal. He’s just what many people call a “natural athlete.” We’re on vacation at Disneyworld and today, like every other day, we spent a great deal of it on the basketball court. They’ve got a great court right next to the pool…you can imagine the routine. Today was different.

Today we put our towels down by the pool and Taylor, as always, dribbled his way from the pool to the court. As we started to shoot I noticed we had been followed. A young guy…looked early 40’s had followed us into the court. He went right up to Taylor and asked him to show him his crossover dribble. The lesson was officially ON!

What followed was the best 30 minutes of coaching my son has ever received…I’m his basketball coach too and this guy was out of my league. He kept working with Taylor to perfect his crossover, between the legs, push ahead dribble, and then finish. Next he taught him a new “spin” move that took a little longer to perfect. Finally I introduced myself and asked his name as well. His name is Randy and he’s from Rochester, NY. He’s a police dispatcher by day and coaches girls high school basketball by night. He was awesome.

He had watched Taylor dribble by the pool and saw potential. He followed us to the court and schooled us both. He inspired me with his love of the game coupled with his knowledge and his ability. Here’s the most amazing thing.

He is a paraplegic. He taught Taylor from his wheelchair. His spin move was awesome to see.

Dream and do. Rochester Randy does. You CAN too. Say goodbye to victimhood…nothing can stop you. BUILT TO LEAD leaders dream and do. They say “done so” early and often.

Who has inspired you lately?

Did you tell them?

Who has “potential” that needs to know you see it?

Say “done so.”

INSPIRE.
