Keturah…

I am just about finished reading a very disturbing book. A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn will have you pitched forward in your chair, and anything but comfortable. You will want to read another viewpoint really quickly. You will want to argue that this guy must be some kinda’ communist, leftist, extremist. You will want to dispute his version of our past. You will want to quickly read something like the Reagan Diaries or Team of Rivals to just “feel better.”

Feel free to do so.

I always recommend reading around all sides of a topic. This one, however, has made me question that thought. It really is much easier to simply read books that reflect your worldview and leave it at that. Maybe I’ve been a little over zealous with the idea that we could all benefit from seeing other views. Maybe this Zinn guy doesn’t deserve to be heard. Maybe we should all just go on believing what we were taught in Elementary School and continue to play “Cowboys and Indians” in our very prejudiced minds. At least in that game we “knew” who the good guys were. Reality, is really just too confusing.

Thanks a lot, Keturah. Do you have any other easy reads you want to recommend? I hear your next one is titled something like What is THE What? Where do these young people get these crazy “open” minds? I prefer my well worn rutted one…at least then I actually knew what I knew.

I am beginning to really understand what I mean by one of my favorite worldview thoughts…the more I learn the less I know.

Thanks a lot, Keturah.
