The latest builder to ask me if they could join our team of builders told me a short tale that made me smile. He told me about Bob. Every corporation has plenty of Bob’s. Bob wears a suit, is highly skilled, and is an expert at what other people need to do. Bob and I oftentimes do NOT hit it off. Come to think of it, I oftentimes do NOT hit it off with a number of Bill’s too.
I do connect with a FEW. The same is true for other BTL Builders, even Pete who connects with more than any human I’ve met. The same is true for BTL and the same is true for you. That being said, I’ve got a rather obvious question. Why do we waste so much time trying to appeal to ALL?
Back to Bob. When Bob heard of our former clients desire to join BTL he couldn’t wait to give him some much needed advice. Here’s what he said. Don’t miss this. THIS is HUGE.
Bob: So, I hear you’re joining BTL?
Builder: Thinking about it.
Bob: Those BTL guys just don’t get it. If they changed their approach to be more corporate they might have something…
Builder: What do you mean?
Bob: They wake up dead people… Come on. They don’t understand how the corporate world works and talks. Their language is not exactly made for the corporate world. They just don’t get it.
Hey Bob’s.
Thanks.
Does your language represent who you are?
Are you always trying to recruit talent to your team or does talent find itself coming to you?
Do you market something you are trying to sell?
Do you go to market with a great sales pitch?
Or…do you take your belief, your ever improving offering, and your strong team to the market and let other believers BUY?
Why?
Why?
Why?
