Sunday morning after a nice bike ride with some friends and before we leave for Church is some of my favorite TIME. The house is quiet and we’re easing into my favorite day. Today is one of those days.
I’m still rereading The Call, by Os Guinness and really amazed by this author. Every page is like a rich history lesson filled with timeless truth and relevant challenges. The page I just finished referenced Tolstoy’s essay titled “How much land does a man need.” It reminded me of an old cliche about time and money…you know, the one that states clearly that, “time IS money.”
Here’s the real truth, if you will. Do NOT miss this. This is HUGE.
Time is, well, TIME.
Each of us makes decisions every year, every month, every week, every day, every hour, and ultimately every moment regarding this rarest and most abundant commodity. Oftentimes we make these decisions without thinking. We simply DO what is expected, what we’ve always done, what seems to be popular at the moment, what makes business sense, or what satisfies us immediately. Our culture made this cliche popular. We are a productive people. Nothing wrong with that. The problem is with our single minded pursuit. Think of Rockerfeller’s famous response when asked how much money does HE need.
“Just a little bit more.”
Time is money if that is your single minded pursuit. Look at your “crackberry” to answer this question for you. Forget about what you tell your builder, your buddies, your bride, your boyfriend and your best friend. Your “crackberry” doesn’t know how to LIE. You and I DO.
What is time to you?
What relationships do you value more than “mammon” or wealth?
What gives your life meaning?
What investments do you give the most attention?
If time is money how does anyone have the “time” for deep, meaningful relationships?
What “unproductive” time are you disciplined in scheduling with and for your teams?
Have you invested in building your STRONG CORE?
Does your STRONG CORE point you due North?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Off investing… Chet
