This week has been quite a study in contrast for me.
My son, Jordan is in Ethiopia with his girlfriend Keturah. They are 23 and 24. They are in the middle of nowhere playing “futbol” with goats, little kids and maybe even some mules. Real ones. They are giving food and blankets to refugees.
Real ones.
They are NOT getting paid… real money. They are doing their thing and they’re calling it work. It is good work. When I spoke to them yesterday via “skype” and my MAC, I could see their energy even though I could NOT see them. I could see them smiling. They are working in a way that makes no sense and even less cents. They will return to the “real” world in July. They will return “richer” than when they left. Very cool.
Here’s the other couple. This is the contrast.
I hopped in my expensive car and drove to one of the nicest parts of town and invested time with a “couple” of folks at one of my clients. BTW, I have been blessed. I am speaking with my mouth full so take all of this with that in mind. Moving on. Back to couple number two. This couple did NOT want to be there. They didn’t mind being with me, they didn’t mind being with each other, they just didn’t smile much. They are being paid. They are being paid well.
They are laboring like so many in America. They are slowly losing energy. They are winding down. They know it but can’t seem to break out of the rut. One of them is only 27 and told me he didn’t think he could see himself doing this for the rest of his life. The sad truth is that he just MIGHT. Countless millions do it all the time. BTW, Am I bugging you?
The sad thing about couple number two is that they do NOT realize that they have such an abundance of choices. They can choose to do just about anything in this great country of ours.
Hey all you American couples that are going through the motions…
WAKE UP.
Your life is a beautiful piece of art. You are the artist and this is not some squishy concept. This is the hard, cold truth. Yes, I reversed the order. I actually think that it’s the hard part that needs to be emphasized. Why do we worry about such little stuff like that anyway?
Here’s the real hard truth. Do not miss this. This is HUGE. Do not waste the abundance, my fellow Americans. This is your time.
This is your ONLY time.
