Today’s session with BTL’s “Big Brown” was another home run. This guy is getting soooo strong he’s becoming scary. I LOVE it when this happens.
Today, he described a situation in his company where his talents and abilities could really make a difference. The problem is that the CEO is unaware…unaware that Big Brown could help. BTW, this situation happens ALL THE TIME. Every system has a head that cannot see everything. Shocking, I know. Those directly below find this truth the hardest to believe. Trust me, it’s TRUE.
Here’s the key for those of you that work for leaders that are NOT omnipotent, omnipresent, all knowing, all caring God’s of their companies.
Know your heart. Know your motives. When you’re comfortable that they’re as pure as possible, simply volunteer to HELP. That’s it. It’s not complicated.
Volunteer to HELP.
Do NOT sell the boss on why you’re the best man for the job. Do NOT condescend. Do NOT make sure that the boss knows this would “never have happened if you had just given this to me in the first place.” Swallow a humility pill. Do not let it get caught in your throat.
Simply, honestly, and with deep humility, go to the head of your system and ask them…
How can I HELP?
Listen. Listen. Listen. Ask them great, inquisitive questions. Make sure you completely understand how the leader feels you could help. If the leader ASKS you how you feel you can help, then tell them the unvarnished truth. Tell them how you could contribute even more to this systems success. Make sure you know your heart AND then let it out. It will be cool.
You just improved your team.
“Done so.”
Why do so many of us “hold back” when we know we could do so much more?
Why do we get an “attitude” when the boss doesn’t notice this FIRST?
Why do we see him or her with crystal clarity but can’t see ourselves worth a darn?
Why do we wait for the system head to ask for our help?
What fear is holding you back?
