Six minutes…

Six minutes is the average time the survivors “deliberated” before heading for the stairwells.  As you and I read we are most likely thinking that we would have acted so much sooner.

Maybe.

Most likely, we would NOT act far from the norm.  That is why they call it a norm.

Are you beginning to see why my objective is to be “weird” and to be a catalyst for our clients to be weird too?

Let’s make this one practical.  Most of us will not have our decision making ability tested in such extremes. During yesterday’s practice however, we witnessed a bunch of “normal” people “delaying” and “deliberating” about tons of decisions that simply just need to made.  The reasons were many.  Here’s the melody line.

FEAR.

The leader is afraid that if he “lets” his people “go” that they’ll “go” right down the toilet.

The “victims,” excuse me, I meant to say followers are afraid of being flushed out of the system.  They are learning to wait, wait, wait for their orders.  This, sadly, is anything but unusual.  This is the norm.  This is why there are so few teams worth remembering.

WAKE UP.

High performance individuals, teams, and leaders are NOT normal.  They FAIL nine times as much as normal teams.  They are NOT focused on their failures.  They call them experiments and they experiment in lots of creative ways so they don’t blow up…it just feels like it.  Here’s the cool part.  These high performance individuals, teams, and leaders taste magic too.  Every once in awhile they do blow up.  They create something so cool, like a Luna Bar, that it changes everything.  Very cool.

Homework for you.  Of course, it’s optional.

Delay and deliberate.  Your brain will do this automatically.  Here’s the work.  Make MORE decisions.  Start now.  Stop waiting.  The failures will come.  So will the magic.  The magic rarely comes first.  Fail.

Fail and you and the team will fall FORWARD…

Now, stop reading and ACT.

Done so.
