What do you do when the wind blows?…

Hurricane Ike made his way up North over the past couple days.  We had limbs broken and shingles flying. Our neighbor had three trees destroyed.  All around us lost their electricity.

Yesterday was a cleanup day.  Neighbor Mike, son Taylor, and I helped Patsy and Dave clean up after the storm.  IT took a couple hours…no big deal.  Taylor did NOT have the basketball camp that had been scheduled.  Taylor did NOT have the soccer practice that had been scheduled.  Taylor does NOT have school today that has been scheduled.

When the wind blows and adversity strikes, we are teaching this generation to retreat, to take it easy, to wait for a better day.  We are teaching them NOT to face their adversity.  We are teaching them that when the wind blows they have the right to sit and wait.

Instead, we need to remind this generation and ourselves that the road to excellence will be filled with storms and all sorts of windy days.  We will lose more than shingles and trees along the way.  We will fall and often fail on the road to our big dreams.  We need to remind them to dream and do.  We need to help them build the discipline to do what most will NOT.  We need to BE the example.

What are you telling your children to do when adversity strikes?

What are your actions?

What are your actions telling your team?
