Okay, so it’s bad out there. FEAR reigns supreme. “How low can we go? When will it all end? Somebody BAIL ME OUT, or beam me up, or wake me when it’s over!!!”
Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah.
I got an idea: Let’s wake up NOW.
The absolute last thing to do now is to sit and watch. NOW is the time to BUILD, while everyone else is sitting and watching. So, get up, walk to the phone, and:
1. Call your top ten customers and make an appointment with each of them for before Christmas;
2. Pull your team together to prepare your company’s best viewpoint on what your customer’s CUSTOMERS need right now;
3. Bring “rough and ready” ideas for what you and YOUR customer can do right now to deliver against THEIR customers’ needs.
4. Rinse and repeat.
Let’s grab this crisis and make it an opportunity. Why waste a good crisis whining?
Oh, yeah, one other thing: YOU make that call to your customer. Don’t delegate that to anyone.
Let them know YOU are personally on the line.
For them.
For their customers.
That’s called “THIRD-BOX THINKING.” You’re the first box. Your customer is the second. THEIR customer is the third box.
What would YOU think if one of YOUR vendors gave you such a call?
That’s what you want YOUR customers thinking RIGHT NOW about you.
