Throughout history humankind has suffered setback upon setback on the way toward accomplishing anything. The central story to BTL, remember, is the story of the Hero’s Journey. We’ve renamed it the Builder’s Journey because we think it’s easier relating to builders than it is relating to heroes.
This week I’ve talked with a number of clients about their particular journey and the prevailing theme has been around their “economic adversities.” Layoff’s, bonus reductions, 401k cuts, frozen salaries, and sometimes even salary cuts across the board.
My advice to each particular client is particular to each client. Every situation is unique and must be treated as such. However, each shares much in common too. My common advice is often around how to “pull up attitudes,” when the teams altitude is being pulled down by circumstance, competition, and a general sense of a lack of CONTROL.
Here’s the advice. It’s common sense AND far from common practice.
When facing adversity and struggling along your builder’s journey remember this…
ACTION is the antidote to despair.
ACT your way out of your depression, your foul mood, your lack of control, your competitive pressure, your tough circumstances, and you’re sure to notice that those around you may or may not follow suit. We all know that action works, we just don’t all choose to do it.
Clarify your vision. Connect us toward your vision, by and through your productive action.
Remember, Alexander didn’t conquer the world, MLK didn’t win civil rights, Gandhi didn’t save India from colonization, Abagail didn’t save John and their farm, and Gary didn’t create a competitive Clif bar without choosing to ACT when others said it couldn’t be done.
At BTL we believe in a steady stream of…
Done so.
