Narratives NOT bullet points…

Here’s a really cool “unintended consequence” of learning to write in narratives NOT bullet points.  Do NOT miss this.

Not only will this type of writing bring clarity to your thinking, not only will it help you understand your feelings, not only will it remind you of where you’ve been as you review your writings over time, it will also dramatically improve your ability to tell your stories.

Writing your narratives will improve your stories, regardless your “intentions.”  Yea, baby.

Telling your stories, more clearly, more compellingly, and with more conviction will occur more CONSISTENTLY as a result of your writing.  Remember, great stories are the bedrock of every master connector.

Transformational Leaders are believers.  AND, they are connectors too.  At a minimum they are masters at connecting you and me to their over arching VISION.

Stop waiting to develop this habit.  Start writing today.  Make a decision to try writing, at a minimum, your “morning pages.”  Write about your “love to’s,” your big dreams, your tough decisions, your  top performers, your under-performers, your victories, your setbacks, your days at home, your teenagers troubles, your favorites books, your favorite movies, your favorite artists, your big questions, your discovery questions AGAIN, your MBTI, your Strengthsfinder, your explanatory style, your pride, your moments of humility, your relationships that are working, your relationships that are broken, and what you are doing to BUILD both.

Remember, our brain stores information in story form.  Master connectors develop amazing “retrieval systems.”  They draw from their brain more than you and I.  They draw from their stories that are “seared” there.  They retrieve them exactly when they NEED them.

Start writing.  Start writing today and soon, an unintended consequence will magically appear..

Very cool.

  1. And as I recently found out, the reminders of where you have been is REALLY COOL…AND it is amazing how much we forget, that we wish we had not…
