3-D Me

Oh, how I love my clients!

One of my newest offered this thought to me today as a recollection of her reading a book! (WOW, JUST AS CHET ADVISES). This book was written by an old dead Lebanese guy named Kalil Gibran in 1923 entitled “The Prophet.” Maybe you read him in school and don’t remember now…

He spoke of Reason and Passion as the rudder and sails of all seafaring souls.
The sails catch the energy of the wind and propel the vessel forward, sometimes very fast.

The rudder keeps the vessel on course, guiding it safely home.

If either is neglected, the vessel drifts on the currents aimlessly, or loses all direction and purpose for the sake of speed.

Either way, controlled by other forces.

Any of this sounding familiar or making any sense?

At BUILT TO LEAD, we’d add this CORE feature to the sailing vessel in question:

A KEEL, to aid the rudder and leverage the wind in order to prevent the vessel from capsizing and sinking.

That’s BELIEF.

Reason, Passion, Belief.

Are you on course? Do you know where your current heading will take you?

Are you moving forward with assurance and pace, harnessing the wind whichever direction it blows?

Are you steady in the water and in control of both your passions AND direction?

In these stormy seas, do these questions matter to you?

Why?

Why not?

  1. I love the nautical analogy!

There are a couple of other actors in this scenario – the Navigator and the Universe. Without the Navigator to read the stars in the Universe, and set a course toward the goal, your vessel will almost surely go around in circles, wasting a lot of energy and resources, and yet getting nowhere.

    Vision and Leadership….
