Unbelievable

At BUILT TO LEAD, we believe in a few principles that form the foundation of great individuals, teams, and leaders, in work and life. Three of these stand out, and I call them out to you this morning–Easter morning–deliberately to ask, “What is it that YOU believe?” Think about that as you consider the following:

Leadership IS belief. The greatest gift a leader can give a team is BELIEF. The kind of belief that begins within the leader’s heart and extends through the team and to the mission.

The leader, going first, examines his heart to come to know what he believes, and orders his life and vision around that belief. The team, sensing that clarity and strength, comes to believe in the leader. That belief is strengthened by their sense of the leader’s belief in THEM, along with his understanding and compassion for their situation, and his invitation for them to shape and share their own big dreams. Finally, through example, action, and a willingness to die for his vision, the leader inspires the team to heights of achievement none thought possible before.

Belief defines TRUST. Without trust, nothing positive, creative, or lasting is possible.

Belief is POWER. People who know what they believe draw energy from that clarity. People who know WHY they believe tap into a deeper, richer, more sustainable source of power to fuel their lives as “souls on fire.”

In this sense, belief is RESURRECTION. Lives formerly devoid of belief, deadened by the power of drink, drugs, and distractions, come alive again through belief.

Whatever you believe, no matter how clear or unclear that may be to you, I wish you a Happy Easter. This day, above all, represents to me and billions of other believers the hinge on which all of creation pivots. Because of today, I believe that none of us has anything to fear, we are all agents of love, and love is the point of it all.

Unbelievable? Too good to be true?
