Who are you…

Rich Nathan has been teaching a series on worldview that I have found extremely helpful.  As most of you know, at BTL, we believe that Leaders are believers.  They believe in themselves, their teams, their vision, and in someone or something bigger than that.  Leaders author their worldview and don’t simply parrot what is popular at the moment, or what is politically correct that day.  Leaders know that what they believe matters a great deal.

Transformational leaders know who they are.

Humans always follow someone that possesses a rich reservoir of belief.  Study history and you will see this truth illustrated time and again.

By way of illustration, let me use two positional leaders that are no longer with us.  Both of these men held the position of KING.  They led their team as the ultimate head. Their deepest held beliefs were numerous.   Here, I will share only one.  A powerful one.

King Louis XIV was the King of France.  His deepest held beliefs dictated his approach to leadership.  So do yours.  Here is one of his regarding his life and his death. Do NOT miss this.

He was scared to death of his death.

This belief had consequences for him and for his kingdom.  He forbade the use of the word, death in his presence.  He refused to live and to lead with the ultimate “end in mind.”  The King’s court was run accordingly.  Louis’s fear based leading was transmitted throughout his kingdom.

King Philip was the King of Macedonia.  His son, Alexander, would become known as Alexander the Great.  King Philip’s deepest held beliefs dictated his approach to leadership as well.

Remember, so do yours.

Every morning when King Philip arose he was greeted by one of his subjects staring him in the face.  His only job was to serve as a reminder to the King.  Every morning, upon awakening, he would greet the great King with these words.

“One day, King Philip, you too will die.”

King Phiip wanted to be reminded.  He wanted to have one of his team, every day, remind him of his mortality and his lack of  “real control.”  Few leaders lead from such a position of honesty and humility.  Far too often, the leaders position has a dulling effect on their perspective.  NOT for this King.

Have you authored your worldview?

Are you living in accordance with your deepest held beliefs?

How do you challenge your deepest held beliefs?

How do you know if your beliefs are rooted in fear, superstition, arrogance, or LOVE, humility, and truth?

Is it possible to ever really KNOW anything?

Are you more like King Philip or King Louis?

Are you living and leading with your end in mind?

Tell me more…
