Yesterday I met with three of my clients.
Client one. This guy’s on fire and knows it. He’s clarified his vision to the point where he’s simply acting productively. Our recipe for improvement is a simple one, now that the HARD work in his CORE has been initiated, cultivated, and is in the process of being “cured.” Every time we’re together we review his top three productive actions. We study them. We evaluate their effectiveness. We nuance them. We usually “and one.” As his builder, I slowly push him toward his challenge zone and away from the comfort zone. Every so often, I throw him into the panic zone. I don’t do this on purpose it just happens. I tend to push too hard on occasion. In the words of Johnny thegurue, “I’m trying to push against my tendencies.” Some days, better than others…
Client two was pissed. His team has severe “under peformagitis.” Translation, they had a bad quarter. Client two had just ripped ’em a new one prior to my arrival. He brought the team together and “let off some steam.” The steam was still evident upon my arrival. His face was full and his eyes were unusually narrow. As I listened to him recount his story and offered him my full attention, you could sense his motor starting to unwind. I listened some more and then, with one deep exhale, he asked me what I thought…
We had a short, but productive time.
I simply pointed him to the blog and had him read the blog titled, Control this. He read and then we discussed his particulars. I asked him some questions and then gave him the opportunity, with a little help, to develop his recipe for repairing his relationships.
Remember, every leader knows this truth. Leaders are relationship repairmen. Period. Non-negotiable. This is simply the way any teams goes forward and toward their big dreams. Leaders always lead here.
He came up with three outstanding productive actions to move both him and the team toward their “goals.” His words. Very cool. We went to lunch, ate some spicy food, laughed a ton, and agreed that this was going to be a fun journey. You see, he and I are just getting started. We’re just beginning to work together on his builder’s journey.
Client three was busy. I waited as he finished his “real work” before we met. He’s young and full of energy and passion. He wants to change the world and has the energy and zest for the task. Today we clarified more of his PVPP and added a small productive action. Our session started late and ended early. We are on the same page. It has taken us awhile to arrive here but we both trust each other, and he’s begun to trust the process. Freakin’ MAGIC is in the air. We left celebrating one of their best months ever as a company and knowing that they are just starting to taste performance. We agreed that the time is right to begin to practice with this team. He and I both know that they and he are ready. This one’s going to be cool…
Three clients that are all cool. What a privilege to have a front row seat to the greatest show on earth.
Growth is good. Growing revenues and profits is good. Growing them “organically,” even better. Seeing real growth in another human’s CORE…
PRICELESS…
