Identity Theft

I read in the news a couple of days ago that the crime of Identity Theft is continuing to grow. New and more sophisticated scams are being deployed through cutting edge technology from murky corners of the globe to steal our credit card, banking, and even insurance information. Think “phishing” and “hacking.”

Yet the leading cause of Identity Theft in the world is, by far, the following. DON’T miss this. This is HUGE:

Fear.

There, I’ve said it again. Dropped the big “F-Bomb.”

Fear, followed closely by sloth. Sloth, i.e., laziness masquerading as boredom, busyness, or bluster. Take your pick.

Who are you? What is your ‘true identity’?

Do you know how you’re ‘wired’ for strengths and weaknesses? Those things that make you strong, or drain you weak? Do you have the self-awareness to know how you perform at your best? Can you describe to others what you love to do and know how to do so well that when the situation calls for it, you should be the one they call to do those certain things? Do you understand the reasons why some people groove with you automatically, and others always seem to tick you off?

Do you order your priorities around what you love most in this life–things, experiences, and people? Do you know what your deepest beliefs are? Are you willing to take a stand for the principles in which you believe?

Have you made any choices about why you live and work the way you do based on that self-awareness? Is your life an active expression of YOU?

If so, that’s OPUS, baby.

If not, you’ve become a victim of Identity Theft.

Who’s the ‘perp’ of this heinous crime? Well, on one hand, it’s the world’s advertising and promotion system, with its seductive lure and expectations that we’ll all surrender our true identities for the mad pursuit of money, or status, or power. Who cares what we do or how we live, as long as we get our share, right?

On the other hand, there’s an un-indicted co-conspirator in on this caper. That would be all those who allow this to happen right under their noses, because they avoided the self-assessment necessary to know who they really are. Out of fear, or laziness, or an unfortunate combination of the two.

Fortunately, there is help to recover your true identity. It’s your Builders and Truth Tellers who love you and want you to become that superhero–your true identity.

You must slow down long enough to ask, and then answer, all these questions. And many more.

Let’s start with this one: Who are you?

  1. So true Jim. It’s been really fun and encouraging to watch you find your voice in this work. Not bad for one of those marketing types 🙂

  2. Thanks, Chet. You and The Band have helped me find my voice. I love what I do and I do what I love. Ad Majoram Dei Gloriam!
