A Master…

“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”

One year ago today, Larry and I sat in his car, debriefing a prospecting call we’d just made together.  As Larry talked, I feverishly scribbled, trying to capture every subtle insight he was giving me.  Larry could teach, entertain, move, challenge, and inspire – all in the course of a single sentence, always delivered from his heart.  Everything I ever heard him say was from his heart.  Larry’s words were careful and confident, clear, concise and direct.  Which is why, I suppose, they are so easy to remember; so easy to carry with me.

The next morning, the Lord called Larry home, to do an even greater work.  He is dearly missed, and fondly remembered, by so very, very many.  And his master work, his OPUS, continues to impact the work and lives of all those he built.

  1. Awesome Doug & Chet.

Regarding Chet’s ABC list, like Doug I had the privilege of having Larry build me when I joined the band. Larry’s “B” for me stood for:

    B-elieve. . .Be-Mastering Your Craft. . . AND especially “B-ETTER B TAKING NOTES when I’m B-UILDING you!”

Which turned into a huge B-lessing because like Doug, I now have some 46 or so pages of notes from my 24 sessions with Larry . . .with which to continue Larry’s Legacy of B-eing a Catalyst for OPUS in others.

Which reminds me of Larry’s biggest ‘B’. . . what he called “practicing the ministry of B-eing WITH” . . . which is what we all miss the most. . .at least for now. . .until the day coming when all the band will get back together for a grand reunion, with the best OPUS wine anyone will have ever tasted.
