My better ONE…

Miss and I are celebrating 30 years together.  We’ve been together far more years than we’ve not.  And, we’re both the better for it.  Very cool.

As I’ve sat around today staying away from the heat outdoors, my mind has kept coming back to the goal of every couple, every company, every community, and every country; becoming ONE, distinct AND deeply connected.

Our world, it seems, lives instead in fractured homes, divided subdivisions, red/blue states, and behind all kinda walls  to protect ourselves and yet, at the expense of becoming united; at the expense of becoming ONE.

I’ve been blessed beyond belief at tasting chemistry in more than a few places.  I grew up with a Mom and Dad that instilled a sense of belonging and that no matter what happened they taught me that my identity was safe with them and even safer with our heavenly Father.  I’ve worked at a company that felt like family and have spent my entire life living in free state after free state.

I married too young and my bride was too younger too.  We’ve grown up together, literally.  We learned how to fight and how to LOVE at the same time.  We learned how to be happy together, how to be mellow together, how to be intense together, how to be angry together, how to be sad together, how to have fun together, how to hang together, how to be afraid together, how to disagree together, how to raise our first three and with our fourth, well we shall see.

AND we learned how to stay together.

Together we improved.  Miss has been like watching a fine wine age.  Better not bitter.  Smoother.  Easier to be with.  Someone to be savored and enjoyed, especially with a a great meal.  Miss and I are becoming ONE, distinct and deeply connected, through the bitter and the sweet, the poison and the wine, the happy and the sad, and through whatever lies ahead.

Thanks Miss for 30. Thanks for giving me the gift of your LOVE and for giving me the gifts of your names.  I never liked my middle name until you used it to form my new name, Eugenius.  What man wouldn’t love his bride to see him as their Eugenius?  Are you kidding me…

You are my better ONE.
