I recently met with a client that was a bit apprehensive about bringing some “familiar folks” into his system. This was a great opportunity to remind him of the recipe for bringing anybody into his system, BTL style.
Step one is always a series of interviews where we ask a boatload of great, inquisitive questions to understand the somebody that is wanting to join our system. Once we’ve got a feel for who this body is and what fuels their fire, we tell them about ourselves, why we’re here, what makes us unique, and most importantly, where we’re headed. We share our clear vision and see if it connects.
If, after a series of interviews we sense alignment between this body and the body of our work, we extend our hand and welcome them aboard. We put in writing exactly what we want from them, why it’s important, and how we’ll keep score. We inspect what we expect. Early and often. Not in a micro-managing kinda way, but in a we’re freakin’ nuts about this baby, where it’s going, and know that bringing new talent will either make or break us. We’re too in LOVE with it and with our team to leave anything to chance, or to bring in just anybody because of their name, their background, their network, or anything but their passion, their purpose, and their desire to bring it here. Very freakin’ cool.
This new body brings a burst of energy to the system. An explosion occurs and it’s a really good thing. The explosion of energy covers the system and everybody is loving it. They feel the vibe from this new body and are challenged, encouraged, and energized to do more. Remember, mass attracts mass.
Never lower the bar and bring in somebody because of their name, your need, a lack of time, or any other reason beyond their attitude, their alignment toward your vision, their energy and engagement in your systems purpose, and their desire to be exceptional. Never lower the bar.
Never.
Never make the mistake of thinking somebody is better than nobody. Never make the mistake of thinking a warm body is better than nobody. Never make the mistake of thinking a familiar body is better than nobody. Never make the mistake of thinking a family body is better than nobody.
Mass attracts mass. Will your new hire attract an even stronger next new hire?
Remember, nobody you bring into your system is neutral. Your next new body will either strengthen or weaken your collection of current bodies.
Do you see why it is so hard to grow once you’ve experienced growth?
Tell me more, my friend.
Tell me more…
