Extinction or excellence…

Today was a bummer and brilliantly illuminating at the same time.  Today, I had a former client explain to me how they were going to repay me for services rendered this past year, over the next 18 months.  Really, that quickly.  Do they realize that they are lying to themselves more than they are lying to me?

I had another client’s court judgement sent to me by another client, informing me that they most likely were headed to extinction. And, to top off this day of news I received a call from another client who informed me that his “kairos moment” with his daughter was interrupted by two calls from lawyers regarding his time and energy draining lawsuits that are crippling his ability to perform the work that he LOVES.

The coming years are not for the soft.  We are not in a double dip.  We are not in a depression.  We are in a situation of our own making.  We have a bunch of mediocre teams that thought they were really good.  We have a bunch of banks that bought the lie.  We have 8X the lawyers of any other country, ready to pounce…

That is, if the price is right.

You and your team need to become BTL yesterday.  The coming decade is here.  The poor performers are going by the wayside.  No biggee. The troubling news is around the middle.

The mediocre middle is either heading to extinction or toward excellence.

You better decide quickly whether you are building something valuable or lying to yourself about your value to the market.  The market doesn’t care about your track record.  Only the exceptional will be here in 2020.

The market doesn’t care if you are one of ’em…

Sorry if I’m bugging you.  I am, however, doing my best to jolt a few of you out of your slumber.  The slumber you don’t even know you’ve been in…

2020 is coming.

What’s your vision?

What is the defining statement of your work?

Why does the world need what you have?

What are you doing to master your craft?

Tell me more, my friend.

Tell me more…

  1. Where there is freedom and love, we will find excellence. When freedom and love die, we will become extinct.

Sadly, not completely true. Our government continues to bail out certain segments and in doing so weakens the whole nation. Risk/reward/consequence are concepts that are supposed to travel together. Increasingly our government is letting some groups have the reward while others suffer the consequences.

    In other words – why can’t I buy a 5% CD anymore?

  3. Pablo makes a great point. The government continues to bail out certain segments. Crazy. Irrational. AND, sadly, predictable.

This pattern will not carry for long, however. It simply cannot. The “New Deal” had it’s day too.

If you want your system to carry into 2020 you had better get busy getting better. The bailouts won’t last. Neither will the bailed. Only the best…

Eventually, nature will take its course…
