LOVE the labor…

Ever gone to an Ohio State football game because you wanted to see a team “labor?”  Ever died to get floor seats at Allen Fieldhouse to see the Jayhawks labor?  Have you ever taken time out of your schedule to go to NYC and watch Fed, Sharapova, Nadal, and bunches of other tennis laborers labor?  Have you ever gone to a movie hoping to see a drama acted out by actors simply laboring away on screen?  Ever gone to Church just to listen to a laborer teach?  Ever gone to a concert to listen to a group of laboring musicians?  Ever stared at a painting and wondered what worker labored to create this canvas creation?

Tuesday, after your Labor Day holiday, I hope you go back to your place of OPUS and continue your labor of love.

Remember, it takes ten thousand hours of deliberate practice to master your craft.  It just does.  The world you serve has more and more options from which to choose. We have, however, the same limit on our attention.  One could make an argument that we have even less, attention, that is.  The truth is, we have the exact same amount of attention as we ever have.  We just do.

The mediocre middle will starve for attention in the coming decade.  Actually, the lousy teams will garner more attention for awhile.  When times are tough we will tolerate a lot to get a little price.  Their attention will be short lived and come at a high price too.  The rush to the bottom kills the competition, the competitive, and the victor equally.  Not good.

The demands of the audience are for something, someone, some team worth watching.  The demand is for excellence regardless the experience.  In the end it’s a really simple formula we seem to follow.  Only those that “LOVE the labor” are worth our  attention.  Funny, huh…

Is your work worth my attention?

Tell me more, my friend.

Tell me more…

And, THANKS for your attention!
