Yesterday’s practice was a good one. We left the dream state piece and got busy doing shit. Isn’t it funny that we prefer working on “doing shit” over clarifying a big dream that is worth doing all kinda shit for? The truth is that most humans have decided that dreaming is only for the elite, the ego maniacs, and the Peter Pan types that just refuse to be responsible. Most humans decide to just get busy. Most humans tell me that they are “doers,” not dreamers.
At BTL, remember, we believe that high performing individuals, teams, and leaders do both. BTL builders both dream and do.
The order does matter.
Clarify your really big dream until it’s crystal clear for you. Do this REAL, HARD, WORK now. Don’t wait until you’ve grown old, don’t wait until you can afford this supposed luxury, don’t wait until your spouse tells you to, don’t wait until your don’t have any other options, and don’t wait until you have the time. You never will, have the time that is.
What drives your daily to do list?
What drives you to discipline yourself?
What drives you to keep doing shit for another day, and another almighty dollar?
Carl Jung, a dead German guy and one of the early fathers of modern psychology, said something about this subject a few moons back. It may or not be related, but in my practice I’ve noticed a correlation. “The most damaging thing, in the life of a child, is the un-lived life of its parent.”
When your child looks at your life what do they notice? Do they simply see somebody that is busy doing, busy distracted, busy diverted, and busy getting more cynical at they “grow up?” Or, do they see an example of somebody that is living their life in the direction of their dream and willing to do whatever it takes to bring it into reality?
God, help me dream and do with uncommon discipline…
