Master receivers…

Keturah asked a great question during our practice with her team of freedom fighters.  She asked how do we become better at speaking and listening.

I skipped the road to mastering the art of listening and focused her team on becoming master connectors.  I took the low road.

Mastering the latter, can only be accomplished when the receiver values receiving.  Yikes.

Most of us humans value sending, value being heard, and want to be known as someone that is interesting.  Mastering the art of listening requires a change in our value system, in our beliefs, if you will.  We have to flip.  Master listeners value being INTERESTED.

Are you kidding me?  Nope, I’m not.  Who gets paid to listen?  Last time I checked the world doesn’t have many job descriptions that demand the ability to listen, yet every time I turn around somebody spins their way to the top.  I need to learn how to spin more shit like my boss, Richard Weed.  Richard has ’em all fooled with his silver tongue, his sharp mind, and his ability to articulate strategy and tactics like a real professional.  Teach me how to become more like him.  Sound familiar?

Master receivers build mastery under very strict conditions; when the receiver is NOT distracted, when the receiver is really INTERESTED, when the receivers heart is whole, when the receivers mind is void of FEAR, when the receiver has already forgiven the sender for past pain, when the receiver, in the moment, forgives the sender for sending a dose of truth in ANGER, when the receiver wants to give another the gift of understanding, when the receiver doesn’t care what emails, texts, and twits they may miss, when the receiver is patient and wants to  be built, when the receivers being is free of ANXIETY.

Hey all of us want to be heard and understood, that much is certain.  The question that I’m yet to answer, is will I ever be ready to really listen.

God, help me become a better receiver.

God, help me…
