Today during practice with a team that has been practicing for almost a year now, I took them back to our first practice. I took them back to the first exercise that we practiced together. Can anybody guess what happened?
We reviewed the biggest thought in all of BTL, that leaders are believers.
None could recall that practice. Nobody. No bigee either. This is exactly what I expected. This is normal, even for high performers.
Remember, the greatest teachers in history did very little instructing. They just didn’t. The greatest teachers, history teaches us, mostly remind us. They just do.
Today, remind your team. Tell them again where we’re going and why. Tell them again what is most important, what is your non-negotiable, and what you want them to do NOW. Practice being clear, concise, and direct. Practice telling the team that “My way IS the highway.” Practice asking them what they just heard, what are they thinking, what additional ideas do they have, and what you can do to help. Very cool.
Maybe, just maybe one or two will hear you. Maybe.
Remind them.
