The S in O-P-U-S is for ‘SHOW ME’. . .

Actually it’s for your S-CORECARD — known in bizness lingo as your ‘metrics’.

But if it had a sponsor, it would be Missouri — known as the ‘SHOW ME’ state.

Have a fellow builder read through what you’ve written for your O-verarching Vision, P-urpose, and each U-nifying Strategy.    For each little phrase in your O-P-U, have them ask you to SHOW ME the measurement (i.e. metric or scoring item) you will put in place to INSPECT it.

This will help you MEASURE the RIGHT things and assure you aren’t MISSING any– and avoid WASTING time measuring things that are irrelevant.   A good SCORECARD will also give you more ALIGNMENT in your OPUS by making sure you have the right Unifying Strategies, and that you mean what you say in your Overarching Vision and Purpose.

For each item worth scoring on your SCORECARD, include:

1.  HOW it will be measured

2. HOW often

3.  WHY (including your TARGET for what SUCCESS looks like)

Then, imagine what it will look like in your team when ALL your SCORECARDS are posted in one place on a SCOREBOARD for all to see.   Remember that the 3 things we all want MOST in our work is our NAME to be known, RELEVANT work to do, and that there is a way to keep SCORE.   Sadly, in a fear-based culture people work anonymously hoping they don’t get work they might screw up praying they never have a performance review!

OPUS is the framework for a culture that is BUILT TO LEAD.    Your Scorecard and Scoreboard will be the “SHOW ME” for you and your team it’s  happening.
