Leaders know just how hard to push to get the most out of their people. Leaders speak the truth, they tell us why they ask what they ask of us and exactly where we’re headed. Leaders understand that this last piece is the hardest piece…

Speaking truthfully, that is.

Let me “and” the truth about the hardest part of the hardest piece. The hardest part of speaking truthfully isn’t speaking at all, it’s the listening.

The hardest part is hearing truth.

Leaders listen to you and me. Leaders understand that the hardest part about living a life that is dedicated to the truth, is hearing the truth about ourselves. We can hardly examine and acurrately challenge a team, if as a leader we are hardly open to the same.

Are you listening? Do you hear what I’m saying?

I am challenging all of us that are in positions of leadership to challenge ourselves to hear more truth about ourselves. This is the BTL challenge and this is why so few are really BUILT TO LEAD. Very few leaders want to hear the truth, but my how I want you to hear mine. Are you getting this!!

Today, seek feedback about you from those you aim to lead. Make it safe, shut your mouth, open your ears, and take some notes. AND, get ready to do this a thousand more times before you get it.

Your biggest challenge, remember, is NOT leading your team. Your biggest challenge is leading you.
