Leaders do not play along…

Every one in this world we call work, works in a system. Every system has a culture, a political structure, and a set of rules for “playing here.” Every system has a head and every system has an inner circle surrounding the man or woman on top. It just does.

Most of you reading this rant are buried somewhere in a system. Alright, you’re not literally buried but you’re somewhere in the middle, somewhere outside the inner circle and you want in.

Like my client today, you might be getting frustrated and starting to understand that your strong CORE and your OPUS are being handicapped because you’ve not been “playing the game.” You’ve decided that you’ll just play the game until you get “in.” Once you’re in the inner circle you tell yourself that you’ll stop playing and go back to letting your CORE guide your way.

You are buying a very attractive LIE. Stop buying.

Remember, throughout history, leaders do NOT play the game. Leaders, real ones, change the way the game is played. Gandhi did not say “play the game,” he did say, “Be the change.”

IF you are dissatisfied with the way the game is played at your place of work, follow Gandhi’s lead and be the change.

Leaders change the way the game is played. Posers play along.

Which are you?
