Larry was right…

This weekend I began to reread a little C.S. Lewis and his problem of pain rant. His description of the “fall of man” from page 70-85 lit me up like never before. It just did.

I have been rereading good books that challenge me as a discipline now for about six months. I’m not sure when I’m going to read anything new, but it’s going to be awhile.

You see, I’ve been caught up in a familiar lie, chasing the latest and most popular. Trying to stay ahead, if you will, by buying the latest reads, devouring them quickly, hoping on Amazon and getting some more. I am slowing down, finally. I am realizing that slowly digesting some real meat is what I need to get a little bit stronger. And boy do I need to get stronger. I just do.

Larry was right. It’s not about how many books you’ve read, he would remind me. It’s about how many good books you’ve read well.

The problem of pain is a good book and I’m on read number two. My notes from read number one were non-existent. My notes now are already beginning to overflow to page four. My worldview is being challenged and expanded. God, help me align my actions to my worldview.

God, help me…

  1. As I type this I am in pain. Nothing to do, but sit with it. Can’t run from it, don’t even want to try. Want to get close to it .. look at it. Then after a short time, go and sleep it off. It’s exhausting. I hope my pain will lessen, but for now its just a weight and I wouldn’t want it any other way. So when someone asks ..” how are you doing?” .. I’m not sure what to say … what’s a good day ? — one without pain ? (doesn’t seem right) what’s a good day ? one with pain ? (doesn’t seem right, but its real) .. thanks Chet for using the word ‘pain’
