Too easily pleased…

This past week I vividly recall my challenge to one of my clients. We were reviewing his “finishing” of a tough situation. He felt that he had achieved a satisfactory result. I disagreed and told him simply that I thought he was too easily pleased. This led to a tough conversation and to him deciding to write a narrative that, once he “finishes,” will prove enlightening and energizing I am certain.

Regarding you and me, this same tendency exists and it’s a deeply rooted one. Time to hear a little Clive talking.

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink, and sex and ambition when infiinte joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” C.S. Lewis, taken from The Weight of Glory…

Are you too easily pleased by your third and fourth drinks?

Are you too easily pleased by feasting on pornography while your “loved one” sleeps?

Are you too easily pleased by letting yourself eat cake, lots of cake?

Are you too easily pleased by buying more, more, more?

Are you too easily pleased by working your way to the top?

Are you too easily pleased…
