Our own worst enemy…

Study humans throughout history, study your family, and study yourself most of all. The pattern you will see will not be pretty. There’s a reason one of my “bolt on beliefs” is as follows:

Chet Scott is Chet’s own worst enemy.

Each of us has a battle within that only we can wage. This war can never be won, it can only be waged. This is true for me. Ask yourself if it’s true for you. And, ask yourself if this is true for humanity.

Most humans are so focused on their battles with brothers, sisters, bullies, buddies, brides and the big boys just above us that they miss their biggest and baddest battle within. Most humans focus their best thinking on how to win an external battle and once they’ve won, they trip on their own trousers. The examples are everywhere in the world of work and worship alike. Examples are everywhere, and they aren’t going away anytime soon. The fact is that they aren’t going away ever.

Study the one human you can most influence, yourself and get busy battling within. There will be always be a fight with another. There will always be a competitor that cheats to win. There will always be somebody sabotaging your good work. There will always be problems not of your doing. The truth, however, remains the same. Your biggest battles are within. They just are.

Don’t believe me? Believe Daniel Goleman author/expert and a big timer from the big apple..

“There is perhaps no psychological skill more fundamental than resisting impulse. It is the root of all emotional self control, since all emotions, by their very nature, lead to one or another impulse to act.”

What impulses do you struggle resisting?

What unrestrained impulses are causing you pain?

What is the effect of this in your work and life?

What is the effect with your husband or wife?

How do you decide which emotions to feed and which to fight?

Tell me more, my friend.

Tell me more…
