There are very few teams that live out our purpose and become ONE,distinct and deeply connected, that is BUILT TO LEAD.
Many of our engagements, toward such an aim, will end in failure. We will not be the catalyst. We will not deeply change the system. We will not transform. And, that’s just part of the process.
Sometimes our aim will find it’s mark. Shoes will become more than just another sole to be sold, and will result in souls on fire. Collectors will become more than just a collection of collectors, and will result in something worth remembering. A developer will develop more than apartments that simply house occupants, and become a place of purpose. A consultant will deliver more than good advice at a fair price, and become a trusted advisor that feels like an extension of their employer. Very cool.
And, someday, these systems will transition to the next generation without skipping a beat. The team that transitions well is the team that has been transitioning all along, allowing it’s members to become distinct while remaining connected. This system has learned to deal with the tension that comes with this weird kinda freedom. It just does…
And, like Bono says, most folks won’t figure it out…
“Great songs tend to have a tension at the very heart of them, the bitter and the sweet balanced perfectly. ‘One’ is not about oneness, it’s about difference. It is not the old hippie idea of ‘Let’s all live together.’ It is a much more punk rock concept. It’s anti-romantic: ‘We are one, but we’re not the same. We get to carry each other’…The song is a bit twisted, which is why I could never figure out why people want it at their weddings.”
What are you building at your place of work and in your home?
Are you becoming distinct while deeply connecting or demanding some kinda oneness your way or morphing into someone else ’cause it’s easier than the honest conflict that comes with finding your way?
Tell me more, my friend.
Tell me more…
