Where I belong…

Humans, I believe, are wired to belong and become. We want to become adults and autonomous. And, we want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. We want to belong to another human, a family, a charity, a community, a company, a culture, a country, a Church, a committee, a country club, and to a cause.

We want to belong and become.

This desire has been wired into us and, by it’s very nature, by the essence of what it is, it places us humans in conflict with ourselves. We each have a struggle between becoming the strong, autonomous,CORE centered individual and the strong, giving, caring, nurturing, member of some kinda community that requires us to place others above ourselves. It just does…

Someday, however, I believe this conflict will cease to exist.

After another listen to Switchfoots new release, I highly recommend you really hear the last single on the release, Where I belong. Someday we will belong and become in perfect harmony.

Until then, we’ll feel like some kinda refugee, born into the fight, whose relationships are, at their best, broken and blessed, and yet somehow we’ll keep looking for a home where we belong.

Thanks, Switchfoot for the good reminder…
