Krits and her shoes…

I just did a double take and didn’t like what I didn’t see by the back door. I didn’t like it at all…

The past 3 weeks, you see, there’s been a collection of shoes, high heels, flats, sandals, tennies, and boots that’s been steadily growing in the hallway that bridges our garage, laundry, and back steps. The back steps that take you upstairs to our four kids rooms that are now, normally, occupied by only one. The past 3 weeks we’ve had double occupancy upstairs as Krits has been back. Krits been back and we’ve been loving it.

We’ve hung out together, we’ve cleaned the kitchen together, we’ve planted flowers together, we’ve partied together, we’ve been to weddings together, we’ve been to graduations celebrations together (including her own), we’ve been to Church together, we’ve been to lunch together, we’ve been to dinner together, we’ve cooked together, we’ve drank wine together while watching Miss work her magic, we’ve driven Tay to soccer together, we’ve (of course) shopped together, we’ve walked together, we’ve walked the dawg together, we’ve run together, we’ve been to Muirfield together, we’ve shared chocolate milkshakes together, we’ve been on the yellow and red couches together, we’ve watched a bunch of Big Bang together, we’ve had slipper fights together, we’ve had sock fights together, we’ve even had soccer ball fights together that almost caused Taylor’s face to break from laughter and giggles, we’ve hung out with her boyfriend together, we’ve done laundry together, we’ve had Church with Chet together, we’ve listened to music together, we’ve 3P’d together, we’ve laughed together, we’ve smiled together, we’ve shared a bunch of great moments together, and we’ve made memories that I, for one, will forever cherish.

You see, Krits and her shoes are about to ‘go bye bye’ again. The back door hallway is all nice and neat once again and in just a few hours the upstairs occupancy rate will be cut in half. Mostly, though, what will be missing is not her shoes. Mostly it will seem as if the lights have been put on some kinda perpetual dimmer, like there’s a sorta cloud that is blocking the sun just enough to notice. You see, having Krits around is kinda like the opposite. She lights up the place. She is like a human bright light, perpetually. Her smile does it. Her presence too. Her words, yes. Her playfullness, yes. Her quick wit does it too. Our Krits is our bright light and she’s taking her light back to the land of Oz. We are happy for her and for her summer school and her work in August. And we are happy for her new life in KC. We are happy for her relationships out there. And, we already miss her shoes and we always miss her.

So, if you see me and wonder what’s bugging me and why I look a little less energized, a little less lit up, and even a little bit slower than normal, give me a bit of a break. The author of the words, “Shoe, go bye bye,” has gone again. Happy and hurt. Bittersweet, yes.

Thanks Krits for giving so much. Y.O.U. are already missed…
