K.I.E.S.H.A. calling…

K.I.E.S.H.A. came to practice 31 with a team of 25 yesterday. Kiesha had never been to a BTL practice and had heard all kinda crazy stories about what to expect. You would have never known by her demeanor and her poise. You see Kiesha is one of those weird ones that already has a ton of clarity and a face that has already faced her big fears. She has a calm that has come at a price, I’m certain, but it’s there nonetheless.

Yesterday, Kiesha called out her leader and all the other team leaders. She didn’t do this in a disrespectful kinda way. She did it CCD and very honestly. One of the team leads called me out and asked me to let them have it. K.I.E.S.H.A. didn’t wait for me. Kiesha called.

Kiesha called ’em out. Yesterday, in practice 31, we reviewed some of the flow recipe and we added our own special spice. Yesterday a really cool team got better because a really crazy leader isn’t afraid to mix it up. We’re playing with all kinda combinations and we’re finding some magic as a result.

You see, great teams are rarely put together all at once. Great teams are built overtime and through adversity. And, great teams are built by a leader that is willing to experiment and take some risks along the way. Great teams are NOT comprised of the most talented people. Great teams are filled with folks that mix it up. Great teams are filled with people that play the role. Great teams are filled with folks that get it and get along. Great teams, you see, have something that few ever experience in the world of work. Great teams have chemistry. Chemistry comes with crazy, disciplined practices and loads of laughter. Yesterday we tasted both.

Thanks K.I.E.S.H.A. for bringing your challenge to a great team of “collectors.” Yesterday, this team got a bit better. And, the catalyst wasn’t me and it wasn’t Churp. The catalyst was Kiesha and a couple other newbies. Who knew?

Churp, that’s who…
