Our purpose at BTL, remember, is as follows:
“We awaken, challenge, and together we transform a “damn few” indviduals, teams, and leaders into ONE. ONE, distinct and deeply connected, that is BTL.” This is the defining statement of our work. Everyday, we aim at this.
Today, FD and I talked through how he aligns with one who does NOT share his perspective and who is so close it hurts to even think about being out of whack. Most couples, partners, business associates, and neighbors just “walk away” and leave the elephant behind. The problem is that the elephant never stays where we leave it. The elephant in the room follows us and keeps getting in the way of becoming ONE.The only way to deal with it is to come together with our spouse, brother, partner, neighbor, or business associate and have a good fight. This is never easy. Hearing anothers perspective that collides with our own will surface the tension. The tension, once out and acknowledged, can be dealt with. Funny, huh.
Today, I reminded FD that we can align with people that share very little in common. The key is coming together and deeply connecting, anyway. The key is understanding them, respecting our differences, finding the little that is common, and locking our arms like brothers. That is what we mean by ONE, distinct and deeply connected. We can remain true to ourselves, allow another to do the same, and come together anyway. The deep connection is the magic. And, deep connections come from smooth sailing, magic moments, common experiences, deep love, and, surprisingly, from surfacing the tension and engaging in some good fights.
Today, fight the tendency to walk away. Fight the tendency to leave the elephant in the room. Today, fight productively. Today, you just might lay the foundation for deeply connecting with another. Another, most likely that is NOT just like you…
