Today Woodman revealed very little. He rarely does. You see, Woodman, like most every man that I know is guarded. He’s walled off his emotions with a fortress for some reason. The why behind his wall has yet to be revealed.
However, for most men, the reason for the fortress is simple; Fear. Most men struggle with anger more than any other emotion so, overtime and through the mishandling of adversity, they’ve decided that it’s better not to reveal. They don’t trust themselves. They build the fortress. Little gets out or in. Few, if any, deep relationships result from fortress building. It is, however, nice to know that it’s safe.
Today, Woodman was challenged to become Wordman. We practiced looking at how this might play out and how it might feel. He can definitely do this. He is going to practice revealing some of his thinking and feeling as he’s thinking and feeling. He’s going to go from being walnut and burly to being pine and plyable. Still a good wood; just not quite so hard.
Humans want their leaders to reveal more of what they’re thinking when they’re thinking it. Humans want their leaders to be real. Humans, if we’re willing to reveal, get real, and raw can deeply connect with others; all kinda others.
Today, Woodman revealed very little. Very little is better than not at all. He’s never gonna be Wordyman but I can see Wordman is in him. Thanks Woodman for letting me kinda put you on the lathe and sand down some edges…
